Steps of Hope 2026: Bukit Banyan Welcomes 285 Participants to Champion Thalassemia Awareness
SUNGAI PETANI, 6 June 2026 — The scenic grounds of Meera Grand in Bukit Banyan served as the host venue for the “Step of Hopes: Thalassemia Warriors Awareness Fun Walk 2026”. Organised by the Pediatric Department of Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim alongside the Pediatric and Neonatology Association of Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim (PPNHSAH), the event brought together patients, medical personnel, and the public to raise awareness and rally moral support for individuals battling thalassemia.
The event welcomed 285 registered participants, including 24 brave thalassemia warriors currently undergoing follow-up treatment at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim. The day’s proceedings commenced with a vibrant group Zumba fitness session, followed by an official flag-off ceremony led by Yang Berhormat Mejar (B) Mansor bin Zakaria. The formal opening ceremony was officiated by Dr Mohamed Ali bin Mohamed Nadhar Khan, Deputy Medical Director I of Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim, whose presence provided deep encouragement to the patients and their families.
In addition to the scenic community fun walk around Bukit Banyan, participants enjoyed family-friendly games, and interactive booths. The event served as a powerful reminder that thalassemia patients and their caregivers do not walk alone in their daily journey.
